Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny sleepy town. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar to its significance. It is often believed that it's an island to the west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine and West. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was not long. Brugel developed on Courtice close to Oshawa within Ontario. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. But, a growing spurt caused her to outgrow every dance partner she had. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. Once I was bigger than any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to acting, and in Brugel's situation, it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school who pushed her in the right direction. Her teacher invited her to audition for a part in a school production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the lead actress of Anne of Green Gables. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in 2000. In the past 20 years, her work has been seen on the small and big screen. She gained the most fame when she was offered the character of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of occasions in the first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the sole Canadian actor.
